For the bread pudding
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 8*8 baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla until well combined.
- Place the cubed bread in a separate large bowl. Pour the milk mixture over the bread and gently toss to make sure all the pieces are saturated.
- Let the bread soak for 10 minutes.
- Gently mix in the raisins and maraschino cherries, if using.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
- Bake for about 30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the center is set but still soft. If needed, continue baking in 5-minute intervals until done.
For the amaretto sauce
- Whisk the flour and brown sugar together in a saucepan.
- Add the heavy cream, milk, and vanilla, whisking until combined.
- Stir in the Amaretto and bring the mixture to a boil, whisking frequently.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens.
- Remove from the heat and let cool slightly before serving over the bread pudding.
