Ingredients

For the bread pudding
  • 6 slices hard dough bread cubed
  • 2 ¼ cups milk
  • 4 eggs
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg powder
  • ½ tablespoon vanilla essence
  • ½ cup raisins
  • ½ cup maraschino cherries optional
For the amaretto sauce
  • ½ teaspoon flour
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 6 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon Amaretto

Method

For the bread pudding
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 8*8 baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla until well combined.
  3. Place the cubed bread in a separate large bowl. Pour the milk mixture over the bread and gently toss to make sure all the pieces are saturated.
  4. Let the bread soak for 10 minutes.
  5. Gently mix in the raisins and maraschino cherries, if using.
  6. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
  7. Bake for about 30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the center is set but still soft. If needed, continue baking in 5-minute intervals until done.
For the amaretto sauce
  1. Whisk the flour and brown sugar together in a saucepan.
  2. Add the heavy cream, milk, and vanilla, whisking until combined.
  3. Stir in the Amaretto and bring the mixture to a boil, whisking frequently.
  4. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens.
  5. Remove from the heat and let cool slightly before serving over the bread pudding.
