Ingredients

  • 1 pound saltfish
  • 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions
  • 1/2 cup chopped scallions
  • 3 pimento peppers chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

Method

  1. Place the saltfish in a bowl and cover completely with water. Soak for 15 minutes, drain, then cover with fresh water and soak for another 15 minutes.
  2. Taste a small piece. If it is still too salty, drain and repeat the soaking process with fresh water.
  3. Drain the saltfish well and break it into small pieces.
  4. Add the tomatoes, onions, scallions, pimento peppers, black pepper, and olive oil to a bowl. Mix to combine.
  5. Add the saltfish and toss everything together until well combined.
  6. Taste and adjust as needed. Serve with hot fry bake or your favorite ground provisions.

Notes

Boiling is another common method for removing excess salt. You can boil the saltfish in fresh water instead, tasting and changing the water if necessary.
Add chopped hot pepper if you want a spicy buljol.
