Ingredients

  • 5 oz fresh ginger
  • 2.5 oz fresh turmeric
  • 8 whole cloves
  • 2 lemon slices about 1" thick
  • 3 cups water
  • Fresh lemon juice to taste
  • Honey to taste (optional)

Method

  1. Wash ginger, turmeric, and lemon thoroughly under cold water.
  2. Slice ginger and turmeric into thin rounds.
  3. In a deep pot, add the sliced ginger, turmeric, cloves, and water.
  4. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  5. Reduce heat and boil gently for 5 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat, add lemon slices, cover, and let steep for 5 minutes.
  7. To serve, strain if desired, then add lemon juice and honey to taste.

Notes

  • Keep the skin on the ginger, turmeric, and lemon, just make sure to wash them well first.
  • You can double the recipe to make a larger batch, but the flavor will continue to intensify as it sits. Remove the solids once you reach your preferred taste.
  • Straining is optional, great if you prefer a clearer tea.
