Ingredient notes

With these simple ingredients, you can whip up a delicious beetroot Punch that will impress your guests! Now let’s take a look at what you’ll need to make it.

Make sure to check out the recipe card below for the full ingredient list and the quantities needed.

Ingredients needed to make beet juice and beetroot punch.
  • Raw beetroot โ€“ make sure theyโ€™re fresh and can be about medium beets to large ones. Try to get them as fresh as possible and ensure no blemishes.
  • Sweetener – Since I usually make it into a punch with milk, I resort to sweetening with condensed milk. If you are just making the beetroot juice recipe, a different type of sweetener can be used like honey or a simple syrup mix.
  • Lime juice – you just need about half a lime to give that tangy taste. Do not use lemon extract.
  • Fresh ginger – about a knob or so is good. You can add more if you like it spicier but you don’t want it too strong to overpower the taste of the beet.
  • Milk – Again if making a punch version, milk is needed. I use whole milk but you can use others like nut milks (Almond milk, oat milk, or even coconut milk). Try to use an unsweetened milk. You can also use evaporated milk.
  • Water for blending and some might be needed for dilution.
  • Optional ingredients include Angostura bitters and cinnamon for added depth of flavor.

Preparation steps

Making this is easy and I break it down into two parts in case you want to just make a simple beet juice recipe but also want to go a step further and make what we refer to as punch where we add in milk.

How to make homemade beet juice

To make the perfect fresh beet root juice at home, all you have to do is combine all the ingredients.

  1. Wash the raw beets and remove the heads. Then chop them up into small pieces. Also add the ginger.

  1. Add in a reasonable amount of water to cover the beets. Then blend this as fine as you choose. Strain if you prefer.
  1. Filter the juice. Grab a mesh sieve, pour the blended mix through, and stir until it’s separated. Discard the pulp.

And here you have fresh beet juice and can sweeten with your sweetener of choice and chill and drink. Or continue on to make beet punch.

Now to make the advanced version that we know as a punch in the Caribbean, we will continue to expand this recipe.

Blended beetroots being strained into a large silver bowl.
  1. Take the strained juice and add the remaining ingredients: the milk and the condensed milk to sweeten. Sweeten to taste. The natural sweetness of the beet can vary so make sure you taste it as you go along.
  2. You can add more cold water if you want to dilute it some more.

Once itโ€™s ready to serve, pour it into glasses over ice cubes and enjoy this refreshing drink.

Substitutions & Additions

If you’re looking to switch things up a bit, there are plenty of substitutions that can be made to make your punch even more flavorful:

  • Use a different type of sweetener other than condensed milk. Agave syrup is a great example of a substitute.
  • Add in some orange juice or pineapple juice with the lime juice to give it an extra fruity twist or even use vanilla extract instead of the bitters.
  • Add in some spices like cinnamon for a warm, spicy taste.
  • Short on time? Substitute pre-made beetroot juice for the fresh beetroots and just add the piece of ginger with the milk and the sweetener as needed. Blend as needed.
  • Add some Guinness dragon stout to create an extra layer of flavor.

With these simple substitutions, you can easily create your own unique take on beetroot punch that’s sure to satisfy any palate.

Storage tips

Once your beetroot punch is ready, transfer it to a large pitcher or airtight container. If youโ€™ve added fresh fruits or fancy ice cubes, keep those separate until serving so they donโ€™t water things down.

Store the punch in the fridge and enjoy within 3โ€“4 days for the best flavor. Give it a quick stir before serving again.

Can I use a juicer instead of a blender?

Absolutely! A juicer works just as well for this recipe.

Simply juice the beets, ginger, and any other ingredients according to your juicerโ€™s instructions. Once juiced, you can either sweeten it as-is for a refreshing beet juice or continue with the recipe to turn it into a punch.
