Looking for a refreshing way to cool down your day? This mango passion fruit juice blends sweet, tart, and tropical goodness into one perfect drink.
I grew up with the luxury of walking outside and picking fresh fruit right from the treeโmangoes (Julie, ice cream, starchy), cherries, pommerac, oranges, grapefruit, pommecythere, passion fruit, pomelos, and more.
Juice combinations were endlessโsometimes just one fruit, sometimes whatever was ripe and ready. And let me tell you, mango and passion fruit is a match made in fruity heaven. Even Starbucks caught on.
This homemade version is:
- free of artificial flavors,
- packed with tropical flavor,
- and just the right balance of sweet and tart.
Itโs simple, vibrant, and totally refreshing. Another fave of mine? This pineapple cucumber juice is pure freshness.
What is passion fruit?
Also known as grenadille, maracujรก, maracuya, or lilikoi, this tropical fruit grows on vines and comes in yellow or purple varieties. I mostly grew up with the yellow ones, and trust meโthey bring the tang.
Inside, the fruit is pulpy and filled with edible seeds. Some folks are wary, but the seeds are completely fine to eat.
Why we love mangoes
Mangoes are Caribbean royalty. There are thousands of varieties, and weโve probably tried half of them by the time we hit double digits. Theyโre juicy, sweet, and full of nostalgia.
Ripe mangoes help balance out the tart passion fruit and give this juice that smooth, luscious texture.
To pick a good one:
- Gently squeeze it, it should give a little like a ripe peach.
- Avoid firm, hard mangoes.
- I prefer less stringy mangoes for this juice. If yours are a bit fibrous, just strain after blending.
How to make mango passion fruit juice
Ingredients
The best ingredients for this juice need to be fresh fruit.
- Fresh mango pulp.
- Passion fruit pulp.
- Water.
- Sugar.
- Angostura bitters.
Equipment and tools
For this recipe it would be good to have a:
- Sieve or strainer โ to separate passion fruit juice from seeds
- Non-reactive bowl โ glass or metal, so no weird lingering flavors
- Blender โ doesnโt need to be fancy! My trusty Ninja works just fine
Instructions
- Wash the fruits.
Even though weโre not using the skins, give your mangoes and passion fruits a rinse to remove any dirt or debris. - Scoop out the passion fruit pulp.
Cut the passion fruits in half and scoop out the pulp and seeds. Aim for about ยฝ cup of pulp. - Strain the passion fruit.
Add the pulp to a fine-mesh sieve. Use a spoon to stir and press the pulp, allowing the juice to pass through. Set aside a few seeds if you want to use them as garnish later. - Prep the mango.
Remove the mango flesh from the skin and seed. Blend the pulp with just enough water to keep the blender moving. Donโt overdo itโyouโre not making mango water. - Combine the juices.
In a bowl or pitcher, mix the mango blend with the strained passion fruit juice. - Sweeten and finish.
Add water to reach your desired consistency, then stir in sugar to tasteโthis depends on how sweet your fruits are. Add a few dashes of Angostura bitters and give it a good stir. - Chill and serve.
Pop the juice in the fridge to chill, then serve over ice. Drop a few passion fruit seeds into each glass for a pretty little tropical garnish.
Best served chilled, and you can use passion fruit seeds as a garnish at the base of the glass.
